User Interface Subject Matter Expert (SME) / UI Team Lead
Nationwide IT Services, NIS, is seeking a User Interface Subject Matter Expert (SME) / UI Team Lead for a potential opportunity to provide technical leadership for the design, development, integration, and support of modern web-based user interfaces and search-enabled applications. This position leads the UI team and serves as the primary expert in front-end and web application development, ensuring that solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with mission and business requirements. The UI SME works closely with cross-functional teams in Agile environments to deliver high-quality applications leveraging modern frameworks, messaging technologies, and enterprise search capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the UI team lead and provide technical leadership for user interface design, development, integration, and support activities.
- Lead the development and maintenance of web applications using ASP.NET C# MVC and ASP.NET Core technologies.
- Design, build, and support responsive, scalable, and user-friendly interfaces using modern web development frameworks and tools.
- Provide expertise in decoupled application development leveraging message queuing technologies to support scalable and resilient system architectures.
- Support application and enterprise search capabilities, including implementation, tuning, and integration of search solutions.
- Provide technical guidance for ElasticSearch and/or AWS OpenSearch implementations, including configuration management of high-availability cloud OpenSearch clusters.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, infrastructure teams, and stakeholders to ensure UI solutions integrate effectively with backend services, search platforms, and enterprise systems.
- Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, design reviews, code reviews, testing, and release planning.
- Recommend improvements to UI architecture, application performance, usability, maintainability, and development processes.
- Ensure development activities follow established coding standards, security requirements, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of software/web development experience.
- 5+ years of experience with Agile development methodologies.
- 5+ years of ASP.NET C# MVC-based web development experience using Visual Studio 2019 or higher.
- 5+ years of experience with Application Search or Enterprise Search technologies.
- Experience with ElasticSearch; AWS OpenSearch experience is a plus.
- Experience in configuration management of a cloud-based high-availability OpenSearch cluster with 10 or more nodes.
- 5+ years of experience in decoupled application development leveraging message queuing.
- 2+ years of experience with React.js or AngularJS.
- 1+ year of experience with ASP.NET Core using Visual Studio 2019.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the UI team in the delivery of modern web applications and interface solutions.
- Provide direction on front-end architecture, coding practices, integration strategies, and development standards.
- Coordinate UI development efforts with search, middleware, backend, and infrastructure teams to ensure successful end-to-end delivery.
Clearance Requirement
- Active Secret clearance required.
Work Location
Work will be performed at DEA offices in Merrifield, VA; DEA Headquarters in Arlington, VA; and other offices deemed appropriate by the Government.
